Services

Computer repair, upgrades, migration, and custom builds.

PC in the Pass focuses on the core work most home users and PC owners actually need, with clear boundaries around what is and is not currently serviced.

Diagnostics & Hardware Troubleshooting

Flat-fee diagnostic service for issues such as:

  • Computer will not power on or boot
  • Random shutdowns, freezing, or instability
  • Overheating and cooling problems
  • Suspected component failure
  • Unexpected performance problems
Diagnostic / Pre-Service Assessment — $50: every existing computer receives an initial condition assessment before additional service. The fee applies whether or not further repair is authorized.

Hardware Replacement & Upgrades

Installation or replacement of common desktop PC components, including:

  • RAM
  • HDDs and SSDs
  • Graphics cards
  • Power supplies
  • Cooling fans and CPU coolers
  • Other compatible internal PC components

No parts are ordered and no additional paid repair work begins without customer approval.

Assessment required: the $50 Diagnostic / Pre-Service Assessment applies before hardware installation or replacement.

Operating System Installation & Reinstallation

Clean installation or reinstallation of supported Microsoft Windows and Linux systems, including drivers, updates, and basic post-install configuration.

Licensing requirements, backups, and any data migration needs are discussed before work begins.

Assessment required: the $50 Diagnostic / Pre-Service Assessment applies before OS work on an existing computer.
Current scope: Mac and macOS systems are not serviced.

Drive Cloning & System Migration

Move an existing operating system, applications, settings, and files from an existing drive to a compatible replacement or upgraded drive.

Assessment required: the source drive is checked before cloning. The $50 Diagnostic / Pre-Service Assessment applies so obvious drive-health, filesystem, capacity, encryption, and boot issues can be identified before migration starts.
Important: drive cloning is not the same as advanced data recovery. Drives with severe physical failure may require a specialized recovery provider.

Custom PC Building

Build a system around the customer's actual needs and budget rather than paying for unnecessary hardware.

  • Component selection and compatibility review
  • Full assembly and cable management
  • BIOS configuration
  • Supported operating system installation when selected
  • Basic stability and function testing
No separate diagnostic fee: hardware verification and testing are included in custom-build labor.
Before work begins

Approval is part of the service.

The $50 Diagnostic / Pre-Service Assessment is separate from additional service labor. Parts, software licenses, and any pickup or return charges are also separate and are discussed before additional work proceeds.

Not sure what service you need?

You do not need to know what component failed. Start with the symptoms and what happened before the problem began.
